Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society

SOURCE TO SEA (S2S)

Through this Source-to-Sea Forum we can create a space for co-ordinated scientific and social efforts to effectively understand and manage Scotland’s natural resources to ensure that we optimise upstream-downstream actions and investments. The nature-climate crisis is a multi-faceted challenge, which requires knowledge, policy and actions that take a holistic approach. We will provide opportunities for interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration, sharing challenges and best practice, and create an inclusive environment for those working across the land-sea interface to come together. We aim to:
  • Build connections across disciplines and develop more holistic research and management across terrestrial-freshwater-coastal-marine environments.
  • Engage stakeholders and provide a space to build networks and collaborations around source-to-sea. Facilitate better co-ordination in science across core SAGES themes.
  • Create proof of concept projects and collaborations that can identify priority areas and gather necessary preliminary data.
  • Provide a pathway for academic research to feed into relevant public and private sector evidence needs and increase source-to-sea thinking across departments and organisations.
  • Breaking down scientific silos: towards Source to Sea research in Scotland - online workshop

    21st June 2024, 11:00 – 13:00

The workshop will feature of a series of short talks highlighting recent developments in Source to Sea research and policy across Scotland and the UK, followed by round table discussions on the benefits and the lessons learned of implementing work at the Source to Sea scale. There will also be plenty of space for discussion around the research needs and solutions to move forward. We invite anyone with experience or interest in conducting work at the Source to Sea scale across Scotland to join us in developing plans and shape future initiatives that address land to sea interlinkages.

This event is organised as part of a SEFARI Specialist Advisory Group Project, with the support of partners at NatureScot and the SAGES Source to Sea Forum.

If you would like to join us please respond to hannah.grist@sruc.ac.uk. You can also direct any questions to Joanna.Akoumianaki@hutton.ac.uk or Chris.Leakey@nature.scot.
