15th call for Small Grants Scheme applications (SSGS)

Funding is available to support SAGES members research, including:

  • Conference attendance.
  • Individual research activities (includes equipment for purchase/hire, sample analyses, access to data and ad hoc assistance, networking events/provision of access to knowledge and techniques.
  • Collaborative research projects across multiple SAGES institutions. These are particularly welcomed by SAGES.

Funding is available for the following categories:

  • Conference attendance - maximum award £300
  • Activity/Research - maximum award £500
  • Collaborative activity involving two or more SAGES partner institutes - maximum award £1,500
SAGES Partner institutes

Activities can start any time after the award date, and must be completed by 31 December 2025.

Applicants  must be SAGES members.

Applicants are not permitted to submit more than one application per call.

If you received funding from the 14th call you are ineligible to apply to this call.

If you receive funding from this call you will not be able to apply for further SSGS funding for 12 months.

Priority will be given to applicants who have no other source of funding.

Opening date: 3rd April 2025

Closing date: 17:00 - 1st May 2025

Process to claim funds: The institution of the awardee must claim the fund from SAGES by the 31st of July 2025, and the awardee must spend the fund and complete all activities by the 31st of December 2025

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email by 22nd May 2025

If successful, funds will be transferred to your institution.

 

The proposer will be required to make a short video to be distributed via SAGES social media channels on how the funds were used.

The awardee is also expected to attend and present the work at the SAGES annual conference.

Report must be received 2 weeks after completion of funded activity.

  • Please provide detail on what the funding will facilitate. For example, if you are applying for funds to attend a conference please provide details on what you will present, the format (oral or poster) of this, and its significance to you and the wider science community. If you are applying in relation to research activities, please provide full details of the project including its novelty, key objectives, and expected outcomes. Please also outline key collaborations.
  • Please provide itemised details on how the requested funds will be spent, as well as justification for why other sources of funding (e.g. RTSG for PhD students) are not able to cover this. Should other funding also be contributing to the proposal please fully detail this.
  • Please provide a rationale for how the proposal compliments the goals of SAGES and in particular how it aligns to the chosen SAGES Themes and/or Fora.
