Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society

Geophysics for Societal Development (Scotland)

The Geophysics for Societal Development (Scotland) forum aims to upscale and re-shape geophysics to aid societal needs in Scotland. Geophysics provides essential tools for resource exploration, hazard mitigation, environmental protection, and infrastructure planning. The forum will bring together researchers and end users to share ideas and discuss how current and future geophysics research projects can better contribute to society, both directly through education and awareness, skill development, citizen science projects, advocacy, and collaboration, and indirectly by providing tools and data required for sustainable and equitable development.

The three areas and objectives that the forum will discuss and focus on are:

1) better public access to geophysics data, interpretation, equipment, and the latest technology;

2) improved public awareness of geophysics contributions to society; and

3) enhanced geophysics education and training at all levels.
