Consortium Building Grant (CBG)

The Consortium Building Grant (CBG) is designed to support SAGES faculty and postdoctoral members leading the development of a large, multi-institutional grant application in collaboration with a Co-Investigator (Co-I) from at least one other SAGES institution.

In this context, “large” refers to applications with a total award value exceeding £1.5 million. Applications may be submitted to any funding body (e.g. UKRI, European, or international funders) and may be for either directed or responsive-mode research.

Applications may request up to £1,500, which may be combined with other sources of funding to support activities such as:

  • Networking events or workshops that bring potential collaborators together to initiate or strengthen the development of a large grant proposal.
  • Administrative support to facilitate the preparation and submission of a large funding application.

The lead awardee will not be eligible to apply for further funding through this scheme for one year following completion of the funded activity, namely the submission of the associated funding application. Resubmissions of the same or substantially similar applications will not normally be supported; please contact SAGES if you are uncertain about eligibility.

Awardees are required to notify SAGES and their institutional Executive Committee (ExCom) representatives when the large grant application has been submitted, providing a brief summary of the application and outlining how the Consortium Building Grant funding contributed to its development.

Awardees should also inform SAGES and their institutional ExCom representatives of the final outcome of the grant application once this is known.

Applications may be submitted at any time, as this is an open call with no application deadline.

All applications will be reviewed by members of the SAGES Research & Innovation Committee, with the aim to have a decision taken within 4 weeks of application receipt.
