CESD is co-led by Dr. Massimo Bollasina, Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences, University of Edinburgh and Dr Matteo Spagnolo Reader in Physical Geography, University of Aberdeen.
In order to develop the capacity to model parts of the Earth system, we have created the Centre for Earth System Dynamics (CESD). Modelling helps understand the mechanisms of change, the links between different mechanisms and extends the predictive capabilities of research, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration between studies of all aspects of the Earth system. The cross-disciplinary, integrative approach of the CESD will provide the capacity to develop new avenues of research into poorly understood linkages and feedbacks within and between the atmosphere, ocean, biosphere, cryosphere and solid earth. It forms the glue that allows scientists with different skills to view the Earth as a coherent system.
