Ryan Ing

Research interests:

– The influence of atmospheric forcing on the dynamics of Greenlands outlet glaciers
– Plume-fjord water properties, and their influence on marine-terminating margins

Career history:

BSc Meteorology and Climate, University of Reading, 2018 to 2021

MSc (Res) Polar and Alpine Change, University of Sheffield, 2021 to 2022

NERC SENSE Earth Observation CDT PhD, University of Edinburgh, 2022 to present

Active research projects:

"Investigating the influence of meltwater runoff and near-terminus subglacial hydrology on the dynamics of Greenland’s marine-terminating glacier margins"

My PhD aims to improve our understanding of the multiple factors influencing Greenland’s marine-terminating outlet glaciers. This will be achieved by utilising different remote sensing techniques including ice velocities derived from Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar and sea surface temperatures calculated using Landsat 8 and 9.
