This project aims to define the minimum threshold for the preservation of Icelandic cryptotephras from small- to medium-scaled volcanic events in the UK – particularly Scotland. This will include the comparison of taphonomic processes between lacustrine and peat environments. From recording the concentration and sizes of tephra shards and using geochemical data to correlate these shards to Ey2010 or G2011, we will be able to discuss preservation potential and variability in tandem with known fall-out quantity with weather conditions at the time of the eruption.
