The Role of Calcium Carbonate in Blue Carbon Environments. Calcium Carbonate (inorganic carbon) has been largely overlooked in previous work quantifying carbon storage potential in blue carbon environments. It is important to consider inorganic carbon and its behavior since its formation releases CO2 and its dissolution removes it from the environment. This project will quantify the amount and sources of inorganic carbon in multiple saltmarsh and seagrass ecosystems in Scotland in order to establish effective methods and take a step towards understanding the impact of calcium carbonate in blue carbon environments
